Drew has taught in a number of schools teaching English and a host of Digital Technologies subjects including Multimedia and Programming. He was recognised as Beginning Teacher of the Year in the WA Education Awards in 2012 and achieved Level 3 Classroom Teacher status in 2016. He continues to demonstrate exemplary classroom practice and develop staff capacity at a high-performing secondary school in Perth, Western Australia. Drew maintains training certifications with Apple (2017), Google (2016) and Adobe (2014) in addition to holding a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. His interest in the capacity for music enabled by technology to positively affect student wellbeing and engagement led him to pursue a Diploma of Electronic Music Production at SAE Institute (Perth), alongside a Senior Facilitator qualification in the award-winning DRUMBEAT (Developing Relationships Using Music, Beliefs, Emotions, Attitudes and Thoughts) program. His Masters of Education by Research is focused specifically on how teachers’ thoughtful engagement with technology can improve wellbeing and sustainability in graduate teachers. He has delivered professional learning throughout Western Australia in remote and metropolitan schools, universities, private institutions and technical colleges. Drew’s research in teacher wellbeing, student resilience and the role of music in STEAM education was published by the Australian Council of Education Leaders (ACEL) throughout 2016 and his work was presented internationally at the Asian Conference on Technology in the Classroom (ACTC) in Osaka, Japan (2013). He continues to write, produce and perform his own original music and has previously composed for Australian independent filmmakers.
